Microsof t have also added the handy 'Roadmap' feature, enabling you track several projects in one place, giving you a high level overview and status. Even if you've never planned a project before, Microsoft have created a really easy to use Project planning tool with Project for the Web. The interface feels familiar and if you'd used Microsoft's Planner tool, you'll spot some similarities. If you need a few more pointers check out Microsoft's getting started guide. Once you have a Project plan licence, you can start your first project by going to, clicking 'New blank Project' and you're off.Ĭreating projects is surprisingly easy, you'll have your tasks listed, assigned and dependencies in place before you know it. You can see how much they'll cost you and what you get from each on Microsoft's Project plans page. These come in three flavours, Plan 1, Plan 3 and Plan 5 (where plan 2 and 4 are, I can't say). To get any of the above you need an Office 365 'Project Plan' licence. Project for the Web - this is the one I'm focusing on today, Microsoft's newest offering which looks great but still seems to lack some key features and isn't an out the box solution either. It's pretty dated and I wouldn't recommend you start using this now. Project Online - Microsoft's first Office 365 cloud project offering, this, I think, is being replaced by 'Project for the Web' but is currently still available. Project Application - Microsoft Project 2016 or 2019 - these are the full blown application you install on your PC, it's been around for years, is fully featured and therefore, complicated too. Microsoft now have three versions of Project - their naming really doesn't help in working out which is which, so, let me explain.
